Dar Reaffirms Commitment to UN Charter and International Law
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called for the sincere implementation of United Nations resolutions on occupied Kashmir and Palestine, emphasizing the importance of respecting international law and UN Security Council decisions .
During a meeting with UN Secretary-General candidate Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett in Islamabad on Monday, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the objectives and principles of the UN Charter . He stressed that the UN must be made more effective in addressing emerging global challenges and highlighted the need for reforms to better respond to the concerns and needs of developing countries .
Calls for Implementation on Longstanding Disputes
Dar emphasized that sustainable global peace depends on resolving longstanding conflicts through the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions . He particularly highlighted the importance of implementing UNSC resolutions relating to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and addressing the ongoing situation in Palestine, reiterating Pakistan’s principled position on both issues .
The deputy prime minister stressed that the full and sincere implementation of Security Council resolutions on both regions remained essential for achieving lasting peace and justice .
Support for Multilateralism and UN Reform
Dar reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support multilateralism and efforts aimed at strengthening the UN’s role in promoting global peace and cooperation . He noted the need for necessary steps to adapt the UN to emerging global challenges and address the priorities of developing countries .
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the meeting also featured discussions on challenges facing the UN and its evolving role in global affairs .
