Islamabad, Dec 14: The International Cricket Council (ICC) must approve the hybrid combination of cricket-playing nations for ratification at the Champions Trophy in 2025, which will now apparently be settled on Saturday, December 14.
Sources had indicated that the top bosses would be able to sign-off on an agreed position among the three central stakeholders—ICC, BCCI and the PCB.
It seems that Pakistan will retain the official status of the hosts of the ICC Champions Trophy and 15 of 10 matches will take place at three grounds of the country.
India’s three group stage games, one semi-final and the final match will be played in the United Arab Emirates.
One such contentious issue between the parties is not well understood – Whether the BCCI has agreed to the PCB demand for a similar hybrid system for the ICC events scheduled to be held in India over the next few years? But it is learnt that some middle ground has been reached on the matter.
The report added that the main issue between the two parties was the BCCI’s refusal to provide any written guarantees.
India will host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year and jointly host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with Sri Lanka in 2026.
Also, India has the Asia Cup’s permission to host in 2025 which will be a T20I format once again.
India’s last tour to Pakistan was for a cricket series in June-July-2008 and India has played Asia Cup matches at the National Stadium, Karachi.
India was to play with Pakistan in Asia Cup last year and because of political relations, matches between both teams at group stage, Super Fours and finals took place in Sri Lanka.
Since gaining Test status, Pakistan has toured to India only four times in the past 16 years.
