In a bold and assertive address at the Pasrur Cantonment near Sialkot, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared the successful execution of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos as a landmark moment in Pakistan’s military history. Accompanied by senior ministers and military leadership, the prime minister lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their swift and powerful retaliation to what he described as unprovoked Indian aggression.
A Historic Moment of Retaliation and Resolve
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the operation marked a significant moment in the nation’s defense legacy. “History will eternally record how within hours, Pakistan’s defenders extinguished India’s unprovoked aggression with unmatched precision and resolve,” he said. The remarks were delivered during his visit to the frontline troops, alongside key figures including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
Top military officials, including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, also accompanied the prime minister. The visit included a comprehensive briefing on the operation’s execution and Pakistan’s current state of operational preparedness.
A Decisive Military Response to Indian Aggression
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos was launched in response to continued Indian strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) and alleged cross-border violations. The operation targeted Indian military sites with what were described as “precise and proportionate” strikes, aimed at deterring further escalation.
The confrontation lasted approximately 87 hours, ending on May 10 after a ceasefire brokered by the United States. The ISPR confirmed that during the conflict, 53 Pakistanis, including 13 armed forces personnel and 40 civilians, were martyred as a result of Indian attacks.
India Blamed Without Evidence
The military escalation was sparked by a deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) last month, where 26 tourists lost their lives. India accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack, though no evidence was provided to support the claim.
Islamabad categorically denied any involvement and offered a neutral international investigation, which India refused. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticized India’s refusal to pursue diplomatic channels, describing their military action as arrogant and baseless.
PM Shehbaz Warns Modi: ‘Water and Blood Cannot Flow Together’
In a direct message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shehbaz Sharif warned against misinterpreting Pakistan’s desire for regional peace as a sign of weakness. “Modi, keep your fiery speeches to yourself. Pakistan seeks peace, but if provoked, we will respond with unimaginable force,” he said.
He accused the Indian leadership of continuing the legacy of interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs, citing Indian support for groups like the BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) and TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan). He also invoked the 1971 war, alleging Indian involvement in training Mukti Bahini fighters that led to the separation of East Pakistan.
Regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, PM Shehbaz issued a stark warning: “If India even thinks of stopping Pakistan’s water, let it be known—water and blood cannot flow together. This is a red line we cannot compromise on.”
Pakistan’s Armed Forces Lauded for Bravery and Professionalism
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the courage and commitment of the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force, saying they “put the enemies of Pakistan in their place.” Addressing the soldiers stationed at the frontlines, he said, “Pakistan takes immense pride in its brave sons; they are the crown jewels of the nation.”
India, Pakistan Expel Diplomats Amid Ceasefire Tensions
He emphasized that books would be written about the military’s performance in the recent conflict, calling it a testament to their training, bravery, and unwavering professionalism.
The premier also condemned India’s “shameful” targeting of civilians, including children and the elderly, labeling it a violation of international laws and human rights.
Martyrs Remembered and Nation United
Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the martyrs, stating that they would remain a symbol of pride and sacrifice for the nation. “The nation shall eternally remain indebted to them,” he declared. He reassured the armed forces of the nation’s full support and unity in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Commitment to Dialogue, But Not at the Cost of Dignity
While reaffirming Pakistan’s willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve longstanding issues such as the Kashmir dispute, the prime minister warned that any talks must be grounded in mutual respect and recognition of facts. “We will not allow a one-sided approach where only sweet things are welcomed and the bitter truths ignored,” he said.
