PML-N and PPP
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) bigwigs are holding second round of consultations in Dubai to finalize a name for caretaker prime minister and ministers.
However, both parties are yet to reach a consensus over the name of the interim prime minister.
Throughout the high-level parleys in Dubai, the top leaders of the PML-N and PPP discussed various names for the caretaker prime minister. They also discussed a name of a non-political figure from south Punjab.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari had a two-hour-long meeting at a Dubai hotel on Monday night.
Notably, during the meeting, they emphasized repeatedly that the caretaker prime minister should be a neutral and non-controversial figure, ensuring acceptance of the election results by all.
There was a strong focus on the need for a “capable and persuasive economist” to improve the economic system in the coming months. Both leaders agreed that the economic downturn could negatively affect the vote bank of political parties.
Meanwhile, sources said that the PML-N and PPP will consult PDM President Maulana Fazlur Rahman to short-list name of caretaker PM. Maulana Fazlur Rahman is also in Dubai, but his party denied it.
Ishaq Dar expresses shock over reactions against his nomination as caretaker PM
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar expressed surprise at the reactions from some political leaders and others regarding the proposal to nominate him for the caretaker prime minister position in Pakistan.
He said that he would accept whatever decision the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership makes regarding the caretaker prime minister role.
He said that the decision for the caretaker prime minister will be made by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and coalition parties.
Dar argued that Pakistan cannot function properly without increasing the powers of the caretaker government. He firmly rejected the idea of postponing the elections.
