Supreme Court Cuts Summer Vacation to Clear Pending Cases

Islamabad, 10 May,2025: In a significant step to easing the burden of pending cases, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, utilizing authority under Rule 4 of Order II from the Supreme Court Rules, 1980, has announced a shorter summer break, setting Monday, 16th June 2025 as the start date for the court’s summer recess.

The Supreme Court is expected to resume its regular operations on Monday, 8th September 2025.

Acknowledging the urgency of clearing longstanding cases, the Chief Justice has instructed that each Judge will take only one month off during the summer and must inform the registry of their chosen leave dates.

Moreover, Judges are being asked to specify fifteen days when they will be available to hear cases at a station of their choosing, while the remainder of their time will be spent at the Principal Bench in Islamabad.

Judges assigned to the Constitutional Bench have been notified that their one-month leave period may be adjusted depending on their involvement in active constitutional hearings.

This measure illustrates the Supreme Court’s determination to maintain steady access to justice and enhance the institution’s ability to respond effectively, even during periods traditionally reserved for judicial recess.
