BEIJING/ISLAMABAD: China extended its congratulations to Pakistan for successfully conducting the general elections for the national and provincial assemblies.
During a routine briefing, China’s spokesperson Mao Ning acknowledged the smooth and stable conduct of the elections and expressed China’s respect for the choices made by the Pakistani people.
Mao Ning emphasized the importance of political parties collaborating to establish a new government post-elections.
Highlighting the enduring strategic partnership between China and Pakistan, Mao Ning reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening their traditional friendship and advancing cooperation across various sectors.
She expressed China’s readiness to work closely with Pakistan to foster an even stronger community with a shared future, benefiting both nations.
Addressing concerns about the delay in government formation, Mao Ning underscored the importance of solidarity among Pakistani parties in resolving pertinent issues. She expressed confidence that the relevant stakeholders in Pakistan would work together effectively.
The general elections in Pakistan, held on February 8, saw political parties vying for seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
Post-elections, efforts are underway to form a government, with political stakeholders striving to secure a majority in the lower house of parliament, which comprises 336 seats.
PTI-backed independent candidates emerged as frontrunners in the election results, particularly in the National and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies.
As per the latest results, PTI-backed independents secured 92 seats, followed by PML-N with 79 seats and PPP with 54 seats.
Other parties, including MQM-P, JUI-F, PML-Q, IPP, and BNP, also secured seats in the assemblies.
