Australian all-rounder Cameron Green created history at the IPL 2026 auction on Tuesday, December 16, after being snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a staggering INR 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas signing in Indian Premier League history.
KKR’s aggressive bid surpassed their own previous record for an overseas player, set in the IPL 2024 auction when they secured fellow Australian Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crore. With this purchase, Green now tops the list of the most expensive foreign players ever bought at an IPL auction.
The massive deal also places Green among an elite group of Australian cricketers who have crossed the INR 20 crore mark at the IPL auctions. Before him, only Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins — who was bought for INR 20.5 crore in 2024 — had achieved the feat.
Despite the record-breaking bid, Green will not receive the entire auction amount. As per IPL regulations, overseas players are subject to a salary cap of INR 18 crore. The remaining INR 7.20 crore from Green’s deal will be transferred to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Green’s acquisition reflects KKR’s intent to strengthen their squad with a dynamic all-rounder capable of contributing with both bat and ball. His signing is expected to add depth and balance to the team ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
