The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided to relieve Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood of his role as Consultant for International Cricket, sources have revealed.

According to insiders, the PCB concluded that it was impractical for an active international cricketer to simultaneously manage on-field commitments and board-level responsibilities. Following discussions, both the PCB and Shan Masood mutually agreed to end the arrangement.

Despite his consultancy appointment, Shan remained fully involved in competitive cricket. After Pakistan’s tour of South Africa, he featured in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, followed by appearances in the President’s One Day Cup, before traveling to the United States.

Shan’s appointment in October as Consultant for International Cricket and Players’ Affairs was unprecedented in Pakistan cricket history. He became the first active international player to be given an administrative role while still representing the national team, a move reportedly backed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The decision came amid a broader restructuring of PCB’s international operations. Just a month before Shan’s appointment, the PCB had suspended Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla over allegations of delaying key correspondence with the International Cricket Council (ICC) during the 2025 Asia Cup controversy.

Sources claim Wahla’s failure to forward an official letter related to the Pakistan-India “handshake incident” angered senior PCB officials, prompting disciplinary action and a search for alternative leadership.

However, the consultant role assigned to Shan Masood was never clearly defined, leading to uncertainty about his responsibilities. With PCB now prioritizing Shan’s playing career, the experiment of combining active cricket with administrative duties appears to have been abandoned.
