Stock Market and Gold Prices Diverge

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 199 points to settle at 176,966 points. This decline came on the first trading day of the week, reflecting investor caution amid regional uncertainties.

Meanwhile, gold prices in the domestic market saw a sharp increase, rising by Rs4,200 per tola to Rs487,136, according to rates issued by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. The price of 10 grams of gold rose by Rs3,601 to Rs417,640.

Gold’s Safe-Haven Appeal

Gold prices have remained volatile throughout the week, reflecting sharp movements in the international bullion market. The precious metal is widely viewed as a safe-haven asset, with demand often increasing amid economic uncertainty, inflation concerns, and geopolitical tensions.

The latest rally highlights continued volatility in both domestic and international bullion markets, with investors closely watching global economic indicators, currency movements, and central bank policy signals.
