New Government Moves to Complete Administrative Setup
Gilgit-Baltistan’s newly elected Chief Minister Amjad Hussain Advocate has announced that the provincial cabinet is expected to be formed within the next two to three days as the new government finalizes its administrative setup .
Speaking on the programme “Khabar Aur Tajzia,” the chief minister confirmed that consultations over cabinet formation are underway and matters regarding ministry allocations with coalition partners have already been settled . Sources earlier indicated the cabinet would likely remain relatively small, comprising approximately 12 ministers and two special assistants, with formation potentially occurring in phases .
Coalition Dynamics and Political Consensus
Amjad Hussain revealed that he contacted independent members of the assembly during the government formation process and secured their support . He noted that not every assembly member can become a minister, indicating only selected members would be included in the cabinet .
The PPP leader confirmed that PML-N members voted in favor of him during the chief minister’s election, and the party would continue its role as opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, with the position of Governor Gilgit-Baltistan belonging to PML-N .
The coalition arrangement follows the June 7 elections, where PPP emerged as the largest party with 13 seats, followed by PML-N with nine seats and IPP with six seats . The PPP-led government was formed with the support of PML-N and IPP in a power-sharing arrangement .
