In a significant move, Adobe announced on Tuesday that it is launching its iconic Photoshop app on mobile phones for the first time. The app will be available in both free and premium versions, with the premium version priced at $7.99 per month—offering the lowest-cost subscription for the app to date. Previously, Adobe’s Photoshop had been available only on desktop or through an iPad app, which started at $9.99 per month.
Free and Paid Versions to Cater to Different Users
For the first time, iPhone users can download a free version of Photoshop, with an Android version expected to follow soon. The free version will come with features such as photo layering, masking, and text addition, making it a useful tool for creators who need more than basic editing tools. The premium version at $7.99 per month will unlock additional features like more cloud storage and access to the web-based version of Photoshop, allowing users to edit on larger screens.
The move comes in response to mobile operating systems such as Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, which have added many Photoshop-like features—like color adjustments and object removal—into their native photo-editing tools. Adobe’s decision to make Photoshop available on mobile devices, at a lower cost, comes at a time when the company is focused on catering to the younger generation of creators, for whom smartphones are their primary editing device.
Aimed at the Next-Generation Creators
Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe’s Vice President of Product Marketing for Creative Professional Apps, explained that the company’s new focus is on targeting the “next-generation creator.” This user base, which primarily uses mobile phones for photography and editing, is looking for a more robust set of tools than the ones provided by basic operating systems. Adobe has worked extensively with this demographic to ensure the app meets their needs for creativity on the go.

“We spent a lot of time and energy testing directly with our target user base, which is the next-generation creator who does a lot on their phone. It is the way that they express personal creativity, and the application is really built for them,” Subramaniam said.
Adobe’s Continued Dominance in the Creative Software Market
Despite the increasing competition from mobile operating systems, Adobe’s software for creative professionals still makes up over half of the company’s sales. Adobe has been working to appeal to a younger, mobile-first audience while maintaining its core user base of professional creatives. While the company’s December 2025 revenue forecast fell short of Wall Street’s expectations, this new mobile Photoshop app could help Adobe capture a new generation of users and drive further growth.
With its longstanding reputation in digital image editing, Adobe’s Photoshop mobile app marks a new chapter for the company, making professional-grade editing tools more accessible and affordable for a broader audience. Whether users are creating cover shots for podcasts, streaming playlists, or YouTube videos, Adobe’s mobile version of Photoshop is now ready to take creativity to the next level on smartphones.
