ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a high-level flood warning due to the possibility of water release from India. The warning specifically focuses on the Chenab River, where the expected water release may result in severe or high-level floods.
Currently, all major rivers in the region are flowing within their normal ranges. However, flash flooding is anticipated in the Hill Torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan division and local Nullahs of North Balochistan over the next 48 hours.

Chenab River is in high flood today. PDMA forewarned of a high flood in the river.
The PDMA has emphasized the likelihood of high to very high-level flooding in the River Chenab and associated Nullahs of Rivers Ravi and Chenab from July 8 to July 9.
Furthermore, the upper air cyclonic circulation observed over West Bengal in India has now moved westwards and is situated over the central parts of Madhya Pradesh.
To address the potential flood risk, district administrations from Sialkot to Jhang have been placed on high alert. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to minimize the potential impact of the expected floods.
It is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed about the latest weather advisories and adhere to instructions from local authorities to ensure their safety during this critical period.
Rescue-1122, the emergency service fully equipped to handle possible flooding in Nullah Lai, has been placed on high alert to handle emergencies. The spokesperson for Rescue-1122 stated that rescue personnel deployed in low-lying areas, particularly in Katarian, Gawalmandi, Sowan, and other vulnerable regions, will remain on high alert round the clock.
They will provide prompt emergency responses, medical treatment, and transportation services to potential flood victims. Rescue-1122 has also requested people not to stand on the banks in low-lying areas along Nullah Lai during the flood and to follow instructions from the relevant departments. The administration has completed all necessary preparations to deal with the flood situation.
According to a spokesperson from the district administration, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has completed the cleaning work of Nullah Lai as directed by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Liaquat Ali Chatha.
The small drains have also been cleared to ensure smooth flow of water during the monsoon rains. WASA Rawalpindi has carried out a special campaign to clean sewerage lines, utilizing winch machines to ensure thorough cleaning.
These preparations were made in response to the Meteorological Department’s warning of above-normal rainfall during the monsoon season. WASA has initiated an emergency operation using modern winch machines to clean sewerage lines effectively.
