Intra-Party Elections

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has meticulously orchestrated all the necessary arrangements for its intra-party elections, a directive mandated by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The party, shrouding the venue in secrecy for a considerable duration, has finally disclosed that the polling will transpire in Peshawar’s Ranogarhi. Approximately 500 electorals are expected to actively participate in the electoral process at this location.

To ensure the security of the proceedings, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations visited Ranogarhi along with the polling site during the late hours of the night. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have been tasked with providing robust security measures throughout the polling period.

In the race for the top position, Barrister Gohar, nominated by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, is a prominent contender. Meanwhile, Ali Amin Gandapur has submitted his nomination papers, positioning himself as a candidate for the presidential slot. Intriguingly, PTI has opted to maintain discretion regarding the candidates and the specifics of the arrangements made for the elections.

A spokesperson for PTI revealed that the Returning Officer, Sardar Masroof Khan, received the nomination papers at the party’s central office. Senior Central Leader Ahmed Owais and Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan played pivotal roles as the proposer and seconder, respectively, in Barrister Gohar’s nomination papers.

In an unexpected turn of events, PTI’s Akbar S Babar, a party leader, made a notable appearance at the PTI secretariat after a hiatus of 13 years. His interest in collecting comprehensive information about the election process, including the submission of nomination papers and voting lists, raises speculation about his potential candidacy.

In a separate development, the Presiding Officer of the intra-party elections has written to the election commissioner, highlighting the necessity for enhanced security measures during the elections.

Crucially, the urgency for these intra-party elections stems from the Election Commission of Pakistan’s warning that PTI could lose its electoral symbol, the ‘bat,’ unless the polls are conducted within a 20-day timeframe. This imperative underscores the significance of the ongoing electoral process for PTI’s future political standing.
