ISLAMABAD: JUI-F chief Moulana Fazal ur Rehman has pressed for an investigation into the inclusion of Afghan nationals in the voters’ list. He urged the removal of Afghans from the voters’ list before the upcoming general election.
JUI-F Chief suggested a potential delay in general elections if necessary to complete this task. He said this Speaking on ‘Faisla Aap Ka’ show with Asma Shirazi on Aaj News.
Moulana echoed Zardari’s sentiment that a slight delay in elections wouldn’t impact much.
Rehman emphasized that state institutions were well aware of the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing ongoing security confrontations with terrorists in various regions, causing daily casualties. He stressed that terrorism remained a persistent issue in the province.
While advocating for elections, Rehman highlighted the need for fairness and conducive conditions, recalling their previous protests against the PTI government in 2018. He credited the PDM government for keeping Pakistan afloat despite facing defaults due to PTI policies.
Highlighting a recent military operation in his village, Moulana lamented the prevailing security challenges, hindering freedom of movement. He echoed Zardari’s concern about Afghan voters registered in KP, urging the Election Commission to investigate, despite not being aware of this claim earlier.
Regarding a potential election delay, Rehman indicated that a brief postponement ensuring fairness wouldn’t pose a significant issue. He referenced past election delays during Benazir Bhutto’s demise, suggesting there are valid reasons for such actions.
Rehman stressed the Election Commission should consider all concerns, including weather issues in high-altitude areas, seriously. He warned that indefinite delays would prompt public protests.
Taking a sarcastic jab at PTI, Rehman implied the party perceived itself as immune from threats while considering everyone else a target.
Regarding the PDM government’s performance, Rehman acknowledged their success in averting disintegration and addressing the country’s default crisis.
He admitted to occasional compromises within PDM to maintain unity, affirming his commitment to constitutional processes and advocating for a fair election to establish a long-term government supported by the public.
