Mohammed Ali, a member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, issued statements on Thursday following a successful Yemeni operation that compelled a British warship to depart the sea.
British media reports disclosed a day earlier that the Royal Navy had withdrawn a warship, HMS Diamond, from the Red Sea after enduring three ballistic missile attacks originating from Yemen.
The reports did not specify the rationale behind the withdrawal but mentioned that HMS Richmond had assumed temporary duties in the Red Sea. They indicated that HMS Diamond would be refitted before returning to action in the region.
Footage from Yemeni media purportedly depicted a missile striking HMS Diamond in the Red Sea, although the exact timing of the incident was not specified.
Al-Houthi remarked, “As the British warship departs the region for maintenance, other warships will similarly be compelled to vacate the area.”
He continued, “All foreign warships must exit the Red Sea, cease their assaults on Yemen, and lift the blockade imposed on the country.”
Yemen has been conducting missile and drone operations targeting Israeli vessels, those bound for ports in occupied territories, as well as British and American warships dispatched to confront Yemeni attacks in the Red Sea.
These actions aim to exert pressure on the Israeli regime to halt a war supported by Washington and London since October 7, 2023, against the coastal enclave.
The genocidal conflict has claimed the lives of over 27,840 Palestinians, predominantly women, children, and adolescents, thus far.
