Explosion and Gunfight at Merian Police Station
A powerful explosion occurred near Merian Police Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Wednesday evening when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the area . Following the blast, attackers attempted to enter the police station; however, police retaliatory action foiled the attack .
According to Bannu DPO Furqan Bilal, an exchange of fire took place between security personnel and the attackers immediately after the explosion . One police official was martyred in the attack, while five people, including a police official, were injured . The injured were immediately shifted to Bannu District Headquarters Hospital, where they received medical treatment .
Area Secured and Officials Visit
Following the attack, the area was cordoned off and a search and clearance operation was carried out . Bannu Division Commissioner Captain (retd) Khalid Mahmood, Bannu Region DIG Rab Nawaz Khan, Bannu Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Faheem, and other officials visited the DHQ Hospital to assess the situation .
Funeral with Full Official Honors
The funeral prayer of the martyred police official was offered with full official honors at the Bannu Police Lines . Senior civil and military officials, police officers, personnel, and a large number of citizens attended the funeral . The martyred official was presented a guard of honor, and tribute was paid to his sacrifice for the country’s peace and security .
Separate Attack on Police Squad in Bajaur
In a separate incident, four police personnel were martyred when militants attacked a police squad on patrol in Bajaur district . The attackers ambushed the patrol vehicle in the Inayat Kalay area of the Khar subdivision, and a heavy exchange of fire ensued . The four martyred officials were Sub-Inspector Rashid Khan, ASI Qasim Jan, Constable Hikmat Khan, and Constable Aftab Khan,.
