ISLAMABAD: After a year-long delay, the Ignite National Technology Fund has officially launched DigiSkills 3.0, the third phase of Pakistan’s largest digital skills training program. The latest phase, which spans the next 3.5 years, aims to train 3 million individuals across Pakistan — free of cost.

According to Ignite, the first batch of DigiSkills 3.0 will commence on August 1, with enrollment for 300,000 seats now open on a first-come, first-served basis.

New Courses Aligned with Global Trends

The new phase will retain the program’s existing 15 courses — including Freelancing, SEO, Digital Marketing, WordPress, Graphic Design, and Creative Writing — while introducing 10 new high-demand courses. These include:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • UI/UX Design
  • Mobile App Development
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals
  • Cloud Computing, among others.

All previously offered courses have also undergone upgrades to reflect the evolving needs of the global freelance and digital job markets.

Program Background and Previous Success

DigiSkills was initially launched in August 2018 by the Ministry of IT and Telecom through Ignite, with the Virtual University of Pakistan as its implementing partner. The first two phases of the program collectively trained over 4.5 million individuals, making it a flagship initiative in Pakistan’s digital economy strategy.

Delay Sparks Parliamentary Criticism

The launch of DigiSkills 3.0 was marred by a one-year delay, drawing strong criticism from the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT, especially during its session in May 2025.

Govt May Reduce Petrol, Diesel Prices in Next Review

Committee Chairman Syed Amin Ul Haque termed the delay a “missed opportunity,” particularly in light of fast-moving global technologies such as AI and automation. “In a world racing ahead with AI, Pakistan cannot afford bureaucratic inertia,” Haque had remarked.

Ignite officials, while acknowledging the delay, defended the pause as necessary for curriculum overhaul and modernization.

What Caused the Delay?

The primary reason behind the prolonged delay was the non-appointment of a new CEO at Ignite, coupled with a dysfunctional Board of Directors, chaired by the Federal IT Secretary, which failed to meet for over a year.

It was only last month that the board finally convened, approving a backlog of pending projects — most notably DigiSkills 3.0. Ignite maintained that the downtime allowed the organization to redesign courses, introduce next-gen content, and improve platform infrastructure.

Urgent Call for Enrollment

With the official launch now underway, Ignite has urged interested individuals to register immediately. The 300,000-seat cap for Batch-01 is expected to fill quickly, and no additional seats will be allocated once the quota is met.

“Time is of the essence,” stated an Ignite spokesperson. “DigiSkills 3.0 is more than just training — it’s a doorway to freelancing, entrepreneurship, and global employment opportunities.”

Empowering Pakistan’s Youth

The initiative comes at a critical time, as Pakistan faces high youth unemployment and an urgent need for tech-savvy professionals. The government sees DigiSkills 3.0 as a cornerstone for empowering youth, boosting foreign remittances, and integrating Pakistan into the global digital economy.

The launch also aligns with the broader Digital Pakistan Vision, focusing on inclusive growth through access to cutting-edge digital skills.

Conclusion

With an updated curriculum, expanded offerings, and millions of seats planned, DigiSkills 3.0 could become a game-changer for Pakistan’s digital future — provided the momentum continues. After months of stagnation, the launch signals a hopeful reset for one of the country’s most impactful youth programs.
