Islamabad, May 11, 2025: President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to help India and Pakistan find a resolution to the long-standing Kashmir dispute following the announcement of a ceasefire between the two countries calling the issue “unresolved for a thousand years.” His comments came shortly after both South Asian neighbors agreed to a surprise ceasefire following intense cross-border military tensions.

Sharing his thoughts on Truth Social, Trump commended the leadership of both countries, stating, “I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan… Millions of good and innocent people could have died!” He applauded the recent ceasefire agreement as a crucial move to prevent further escalation and hailed it as a victory for peace in the region.

The Kashmir dispute has long been a flashpoint in Pakistan-India relations, with multiple wars and skirmishes fought over the territory.

Trump’s offer to help mediate adds a fresh international dimension to the development. “The United States played a role in facilitating this peace,” Trump claimed, further revealing his intention to ramp up trade relations with both nuclear-armed neighbors.

This is not the first time Trump has offered to mediate between the two countries. During his presidency, similar statements were made, though they received mixed reactions from Indian officials.

Experts believe his latest remarks, while symbolic, might help draw renewed global attention to the unresolved Kashmir issue.

The announcement of the ceasefire comes after days of heightened military action, with both sides engaging in strikes and counterstrikes along the Line of Control.

Analysts see this unexpected de-escalation as a diplomatic breakthrough that could open doors to future dialogue.

With Trump signaling potential involvement, and the U.S. hinting at deepening trade partnerships, all eyes are now on Islamabad and New Delhi for their next move.

Pakistan welcomes the statement by the US President Donald J. Trump regarding Pakistan-India relations.

We acknowledge with appreciation the constructive role played by the United States, alongside other friendly states, in supporting the recent ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, a step towards de-escalation and regional stability.

We also appreciate President Trump’s expressed willingness to support efforts aimed at the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute – a longstanding issue that has serious implications for peace and security in South Asia and beyond.

Pakistan reaffirms that any just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and must ensure the realization of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including their inalienable right to self-determination.

Pakistan remains committed to engaging with the United States and the international community in efforts to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the region.

We also look forward to deepening our multifaceted partnership with the United States, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
