Heads of State Delivers Action, Laughs, and Surprises

Islamabad, July 3, 2025: In the surprisingly enjoyable Amazon-backed action-comedy Heads of State, tensions are icy between the U.S. President (John Cena) and the British Prime Minister (Idris Elba) until a terrorist strike compels them to join forces and neutralize the danger personally.

While many elements of this premise may sound far-fetched, one thing is clear: Heads of State delivers far more fun than it appears at first glance.

America has never witnessed a commander-in-chief as unqualified as Cena’s Will Derringer, a pumped-up Hollywood action star famous for his Water Cobra series. Clearly inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Derringer is no more absurd than other larger-than-life figures who’ve held office in today’s unpredictable world.

Across the Atlantic, Elba’s portrayal of U.K. PM Sam Clarke presents a bold choice for a country that recently chose its first leader of color. Clarke, with his military background, contrasts sharply with Derringer, who only portrayed a soldier on screen.

The real surprise isn’t in the casting or characters, but that Amazon successfully produced a theater-worthy blockbuster like Heads of State. From an explosive opening at Spain’s La Tomatina festival with undercover agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) to high-flying action scenes, the film never slows down.

After Air Force One is destroyed, Derringer and Clarke parachute into hostile Belarus, forcing them to cooperate to survive. Director Ilya Naishuller keeps the action humorous throughout, making this political buddy adventure a thrilling, comedic escape packed with punches, chases, and unexpected laughs.
