LAHORE: The long-awaited match schedule for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to be unveiled on November 25, sources told Geo Super on Friday. The announcement will take place during a high-profile ceremony in Mumbai, which Indian media reports will be attended by ICC Chairman Jay Shah, along with several former and current international cricketers.
The 10th edition of the tournament — jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka — is expected to run from February 7 to March 8, 2026, featuring 20 teams competing across multiple venues. This marks the second consecutive time that the T20 World Cup will host an expanded field of 20 sides, following the 2024 edition held in the West Indies and USA.
One of the key talking points ahead of the announcement is the venue for the final. The showpiece match is likely to be staged in either Ahmedabad or Colombo, with the final choice depending on whether Pakistan qualify for the knockout rounds. Due to ongoing political tensions, India and Pakistan are not currently engaged in bilateral cricket, adding an extra layer of logistical consideration for tournament organisers.
Format to Mirror 2024 Edition
The competition format for the 2026 T20 World Cup will remain the same as the one used earlier this year.
- The 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five.
- The top two sides from each group will qualify for the Super Eight stage.
- The Super Eight teams will then be split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
- Winners move on to the final to compete for the coveted trophy.
India enter the tournament as the defending champions, having claimed a dramatic victory over South Africa in the 2024 final in Barbados — a match that concluded a thrilling 55-game tournament.
All 20 Teams Confirmed for 2026
With the United Arab Emirates (UAE) securing qualification last month, all 20 participating teams for the 2026 edition have now been finalised. The UAE joined Nepal and Oman as the final teams to emerge from the Asia-EAP qualifiers.
Alongside hosts India and Sri Lanka, seven teams earned automatic entry through their performance in the Super Eight stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup:
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the United States, and West Indies.
Three teams — Pakistan, New Zealand, and Ireland — booked their spots based on ICC T20I team rankings, while a series of regional qualification events completed the 20-team line-up.
From the Americas, Canada secured the region’s lone qualifying berth.
The Europe Regional Final produced two qualifiers: the Netherlands and Italy, with Italy earning a historic place in what will be their first-ever T20 World Cup appearance.
In the Africa Regional Final, Namibia and Zimbabwe sealed their tickets to the global event.
With the growing competitiveness of Associate nations, the 2026 edition promises a broader global spread of talent, storylines, and emerging stars.
