Islamabad, June 19, 2025: Pakistan top English-language newspaper, DAWN, has opened applications for a six-month paid internship, specially designed for young journalists eager to learn. The internship is launched in partnership with the Australian High Commission. Only final-year students and fresh graduates living in Karachi can apply.
The internship program starting in July 2025 will offer selected participants a chance to work with experienced journalists inside a real newsroom. The goal is to create a strong journalistic environment to polish young journalists skills through both classroom learning and hands-on reporting.
Who Can Apply?
This internship is open for students in their final year and fresh graduates who are serious about news, current events, and media. Applicants must have strong English skills, be willing to learn, and should be comfortable working late night shifts. Since it’s based in Karachi, only city residents are eligible to apply.
This initiative is not only providing editorial training, but also real-world experience through live assignments. It aims to give participants a full picture of how a professional newsroom works.
Internship Phases
The internship is divided into two phases over six months:
- Phase 1 (2 Months): From 1 PM to 5 PM, interns will get classroom-style editorial training on writing, research, and editing.
- Phase 2 (4 Months): Interns will work night shifts from 8 PM to 2 AM, where they will be involved in actual newsroom duties and reporting tasks, facing real deadlines and stories.

Stipend and Guidance
Each intern will be receive a monthly stipend, so they can focus more on learning instead of worrying about expenses. The whole program is designed to develop long-term interest in journalism and help young people start a strong media career.

How to Apply
Interested applicants are required to send in their applications before June 25, 2025. A written test will be held on June 30, 2025. All applications should be emailed to humair.ishtiaq@dawn.com.
