Four members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, including the head of their information unit, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Damascus on Saturday, said sources within the pro-Syrian alliance.
An official from an Iran-backed group in the Middle East told the foreign media that the targeted building was utilized by Revolutionary Guard officials and it was destroyed by “Israeli missiles.”
Meanwhile, Al-Jazeera also reported that several members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) lost their lives in the strike on a residential building in Damascus.
The Syrian state media outlet SANA stated that the attack occurred in the Mazzeh neighborhood, attributing it to “Israeli aggression” targeting the building.
According to Al Jazeera, the focus of the strike was an IRGC intelligence unit, with a senior IRGC intelligence official in Syria and his assistants present in the building. While Iranian state media confirmed the deaths of IRGC members in the attack, it did not provide additional details.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based organization relying on on-the-ground sources, reported that the strike resulted in the death of five individuals in a building where “Iran-aligned leaders” were holding a meeting.
The organization stated, “An Israeli missile strike targeted a four-storey building, killing five people, and destroying the whole building where Iran-aligned leaders were meeting,” about the incident.
