The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz on Tuesday said the federal cabinet approved the formation of a commission of inquiry on the Broadsheet case. The commission will be headed by Justice (retd) Azmat Saeed.
Responding to the questions in the press conference, Shibli said the commission was set up under the Commission of Inquiry Act 2017, instead of a committee, to investigate the Broadsheet case. The minister also mentioned that the commission will also investigate Hudaibiya Sugar Mills scam and Surrey Palace of the PPP leaders, along with Broadsheet issue.
Mr Shibli explained that the commission will also be investigating Swiss cases against PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari.
He added the commission would submit its findings on the Broadsheet case within 45 days and expose those who had played key role in destroying country’s economy. As per the TORs, the commission could summon any institution or individual or seek documents.
Federal Minister also said the Broadsheet case had exposed how the past regimes had put political expediency over morality to give safe passage to the corrupt people, which eventually led to the acceptance of corruption in society.
Answering a question Mr Faraz said that Justice (retd) Azmat Saeed is the best candidate for the job as he’s the most competent person, having a vast experience of NAB as well as the Supreme Court.
