Chilas Attack
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has vehemently condemned the heinous firing incident targeting a passenger bus in the Chilas area of Gilgit-Baltistan. Expressing profound sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in Saturday’s tragic incident, the prime minister extended heartfelt prayers for the departed souls and urged courage for the grieving families to cope with their profound loss.
PM Kakar characterized the deliberate targeting of innocent citizens as a clear manifestation of terrorists’ cowardice. He asserted that the nefarious designs of terrorists seeking to disrupt peace in Gilgit-Baltistan would not succeed, emphasizing the resilience of the region against such acts of violence.
Furthermore, the prime minister affirmed the commitment to an ongoing war against terrorism, emphasizing the determination to eradicate terrorism entirely from the country.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, resulted in the loss of at least nine lives, with 25 others sustaining injuries when unidentified assailants opened fire on a passenger bus traveling from Ghizer district to Islamabad. The armed attackers, riding motorcycles, indiscriminately fired at the bus, causing casualties among passengers and the driver.
The assailants managed to flee the scene following the attack, leaving behind a tragic aftermath. The bus, with a deceased driver, veered off course and collided with a cargo truck from the opposite direction. Rescue efforts were promptly initiated, with injured passengers being transported to the nearby regional headquarters hospital for urgent medical treatment.
As authorities launched a search operation to apprehend the culprits, the police expressed concern about the critical condition of some injured individuals, indicating that the death toll might rise. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by acts of terrorism, necessitating robust efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
