The final declaration of the Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has spotlighted Israel’s assaults on journalists and its dissemination of disinformation to sway global public opinion.
In the declaration, the ongoing military aggression by Israel against the Palestinian people, along with its systematic oppression, massacres, and genocide of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since October 7, and in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, was strongly condemned.
An immediate unconditional ceasefire was urged to halt further loss of life.
The declaration denounced Israel’s systematic dissemination of misinformation and fake news to conceal its brutal actions and genocidal massacres in Gaza.
Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of safeguarding journalists’ rights and highlighted the deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists as part of a broader campaign to suppress truth-telling.
An urgent call was made for an investigation to hold the Israeli authorities accountable for their crimes against journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The declaration also urged all nations to recognize the sovereign and independent State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. This recognition was deemed essential for achieving a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and ensuring regional security.
