Petrol Prices Rise as Diesel Falls
The federal government has revised petroleum prices, increasing the price of petrol by Rs4.45 per litre while reducing the price of high-speed diesel by Rs2 per litre, according to a notification from the Petroleum Division.
New Fuel Rates (Effective August 7)
- Petrol: Increased by Rs4.45 → Rs333 per litre
- High-Speed Diesel: Reduced by Rs2 → Rs383.86 per litre
The revised prices will remain in effect until the next notification under the daily pricing mechanism.
Background of Price Adjustment
The adjustment follows changes in global oil prices and the exchange rate. Petrol is primarily used in private vehicles, motorcycles, and light transport, while high-speed diesel is widely used in agriculture, heavy transport, and industrial sectors.
Daily Pricing Mechanism
The government introduced a daily fuel price review mechanism in July 2026 amid volatility in global oil markets on the back of renewed hostilities in the Middle East. Under the new framework, Ogra now has the authority to announce daily ex-depot prices based on a seven-day rolling average of international market prices, without requiring prior approval from the prime minister or the federal government.
