Pakistan Intensifies Counterterrorism Operations in Balochistan
Pakistan’s security forces have eliminated 54 terrorists during intelligence-based operations across Balochistan over the past four days, while 42 security personnel embraced martyrdom in ongoing counterterrorism engagements.
ISPR Director General Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry briefed media on Wednesday, detailing the military’s response to recent terrorist attacks targeting civilians and security forces. The operations were launched following multiple militant assaults in the province.
Major Terrorist Incidents
Three significant terrorist incidents occurred in Balochistan, with Fitna al-Khawarij militants targeting innocent civilians. The most severe attack at the Ziarat Mangi police check post resulted in 27 police personnel martyred. Security forces killed 26 militants during the clearance operation.
In a separate attack on the N-25 highway near Bela-Winder, 11 army personnel were martyred while 14 BLA militants were killed. Additional operations in Kharan and Dalbandin eliminated 6 and 8 terrorists respectively.
Pakistan’s Firm Stance
The military spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s position that Afghan territory is being used for cross-border terrorist activities, alleging Afghan regime support for attacks. He also accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Balochistan.
Lt-Gen Chaudhry emphasized that Fitna al-Khawarij has no connection with Islam or Baloch nationalism, stating: “We will hunt you, and we will hurt you everywhere.”
National Commitment
The DG ISPR affirmed that Balochistan’s development remains a national priority, with no compromise possible in the fight against terrorism. He warned that those targeting civilians or security personnel should not expect restraint from the state.
Pakistan continues its policy of identifying and repatriating illegal Afghan nationals while pursuing terrorists, facilitators, and financiers without distinction. The military expressed confidence in prevailing against militancy with support from the people and government of Balochistan.
