The Pakistan men’s national cricket team is set to tour Bangladesh in July 2025 for a three-match T20I series, as part of their build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The series, officially ratified by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday, is slated to be held entirely at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

This marks Pakistan’s first bilateral series in Bangladesh since 2021, and it comes at a crucial juncture for both teams as they reshape their squads, test young talent, and prepare for the next global tournament.

Full Series Schedule Announced

According to the itinerary released by the BCB, Pakistan will arrive in Dhaka on 16 July, with the matches scheduled on the following dates:

  • 1st T20I: Sunday, 20 July 2025
  • 2nd T20I: Tuesday, 22 July 2025
  • 3rd T20I: Thursday, 24 July 2025

All three matches will begin at 6:00 PM local time and will be held under lights at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, which has hosted several high-stakes T20 clashes in the past.

Key Preparation Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

The series serves as an essential preparatory assignment for both sides ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. With just under a year remaining until the tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is using this series to test emerging players, experiment with strategies, and build team cohesion under subcontinental playing conditions.

A New Era Under Coach Mike Hesson

This tour also marks the first international assignment for new head coach Mike Hesson, the former New Zealand coach known for his analytical and strategic approach to white-ball cricket. Hesson was recently appointed as part of a comprehensive restructuring of Pakistan’s coaching and selection system following the team’s inconsistent performances in recent months.

The T20I series in Bangladesh will provide valuable insights into the strengths and gaps in Pakistan’s squad, especially in high-pressure conditions and on slow, spin-friendly tracks — conditions expected in the World Cup.

Agha Salman to Lead Pakistan

Agha Salman, the current T20I captain, will lead the side during the tour. His leadership is being closely observed by the PCB as they seek stability and long-term vision in the shortest format of the game. While experienced players are likely to be part of the squad, the tour is expected to feature several young and emerging cricketers, giving them an opportunity to impress on the international stage.

Recent Head-to-Head: Pakistan Dominant in Lahore

The upcoming series follows the most recent T20I encounter between the two sides in Lahore earlier this year, where Pakistan swept the series 3-0 at the Gaddafi Stadium. However, playing away from home in front of a passionate Bangladeshi crowd, and on challenging surfaces, will be a different test altogether.

Bangladesh Eyes Redemption at Home

For Bangladesh, the home series is not just about preparing for the World Cup but also about restoring confidence after a string of mixed results in the T20 format. With several young players entering the fold and veterans still part of the setup, Bangladesh will aim to use home advantage to challenge a rebuilding Pakistan side.

The BCB has reportedly emphasized the importance of balancing development with competitiveness, and coach Chandika Hathurusingha will be under scrutiny to produce results ahead of next year’s global event.

Familiar Conditions, Unfamiliar Pressures

Though Pakistan is accustomed to playing in subcontinental conditions, the pitch behavior in Dhaka and the intensity of Bangladesh’s home support present unique challenges. The tour will test Pakistan’s ability to adapt their playing XI, rotate bowlers wisely, and strategically utilize spin resources — all crucial elements in T20 cricket in Asia.

Strategic Importance for Both Sides

With the T20 World Cup 2026 looming, the series carries significant strategic importance for both nations. The outcomes will not only influence team selections for future tours but may also shape World Cup squad decisions, leadership choices, and coaching strategies.
