Islamabad, June 5, 2025: Cristiano Ronaldo made his 137th international goal on Wednesday night in Por Vs Ger as Portugal made past Germany 2-1 in Munich, making a spot in the UEFA Nations League final scheduled for Sunday.

At 40 years old, Ronaldo calmly converted a low delivery from Nuno Mendes in the 68th minute, sealing Portugal’s comeback win. His strike came just minutes after Francisco Conceição had drawn Portugal level, turning the match around in under five minutes.

Conceição’s goal carried special significance—it came exactly 25 years after his father, Sérgio Conceição, famously scored a hat-trick against Germany at Euro 2000. The younger Conceição’s effort was crucial in sending Portugal to their second Nations League final, having clinched the title in the inaugural tournament in 2019.

Germany had taken the lead shortly after halftime, when Florian Wirtz headed in a well-placed pass from Joshua Kimmich in the 48th minute. Kimmich, marking his 100th cap, found Wirtz—who is reportedly nearing a $139 million move to Liverpool—inside the box to give the home side the advantage.

Portugal, however, responded with urgency. Substitute Conceição equalised in the 63rd minute with a sharp finish past Marc-André ter Stegen. Though Portuguese players questioned a possible obstruction by Nick Woltemade on Rúben Dias, the goal stood after a VAR check.

Soon after, Mendes sent in a pinpoint cross to Ronaldo, who was left unmarked and slotted home the winner. Germany nearly responded late on, but Karim Adeyemi’s strike hit the post, and Portugal held on for their first win over Germany in a competitive fixture since Euro 2000.

The final, set to be played in Munich on June 8, will pit Portugal against the victor of Thursday’s semi-final between France and Spain in Stuttgart.
