In a major political development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced its decision to support the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq. However, the PML-N clarified that it will not take part in any new government formed after the motion succeeds.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting between senior leaders of both parties at the Presidency in Islamabad, chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari. According to sources, the move comes amid growing dissatisfaction over the AJK government’s performance, with both parties citing poor governance and failure to address public concerns.
PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira confirmed that the motion would be presented in the AJK Legislative Assembly, stressing the need for renewed political direction in the region. Meanwhile, PML-N leaders Rana Sanaullah and Ahsan Iqbal reaffirmed their party’s stance, stating that while PML-N supports the no-confidence initiative, it will stay outside any ensuing coalition or cabinet setup.
The PML-N has also formally ended its alliance with the AJK government, positioning itself as the opposition. Shah Ghulam Qadir, PML-N’s AJK chapter president, emphasized that the party’s primary focus is on ensuring transparent elections and accountable governance moving forward.
This collaboration between the PPP and PML-N signals a potential realignment in AJK’s political landscape. As the no-confidence motion moves ahead, the region may see the emergence of a new power structure aimed at restoring stability and public trust.
