ISLAMABAD: Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), supported the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) plan to complete the delimitation process.
He said the notification of the new census has made it mandatory for the ECP to initiate a fresh delimitation exercise.
The PPP conveyed Zardari’s statement through its social media accounts. It emphasized the electoral authority’s responsibility to conduct elections in accordance with the Constitution.
Furthermore, the former president expressed confidence in Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Rana and the commission’s members.
Asif Zardari also called upon the caretaker government to expedite the initiatives undertaken by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), an apex body formed by the previous government to attract foreign investments.
He added, “It is essential to put the country on the path of development by completing these projects.”
Zardari’s statement came in response to calls from various PPP leaders who urged the ECP to announce polls. PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto also urged the ECP to adhere to the constitutional requirement of holding elections within 90 days.
During a meeting between the party’s delegation and ECP members, the PPP reiterated these demands. Nayyar Bukhari stated, “The stance we are taking today is that the PPP wants the ECP to announce a new election date and its schedule. There is restlessness in the nation. It is of utmost importance that a new election date and schedule are promptly announced.”
Many in political circles are surprised by the party’s change of stance, especially considering that its members had also voted in favor of census approval.

A troupe of women dancing to folk music greeted the head of the Arab world’s largest economy on the tarmac in New Delhi.
At the G20 Summit, he is expected to sign an agreement with the G20 members to build a rail and shipping network that links the Middle East to India and Europe.
His visit comes at a time when Washington is actively engaging with the kingdom and encouraging it to normalize ties with Israel.
US Deputy National Security Advisor said, “This has been the result of months of diplomacy and multilateral settings.”
Finer added, “This project has enormous potential, but I don’t know exactly how long it will take.”
