The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has issued an urgent, province-wide directive mandating strict implementation of security protocols in all public and private educational institutions across the province. The move follows heightened security concerns emerging from various parts of the country, prompting authorities to reinforce preventive measures within the education sector.
According to the official communication—shared with district authorities, partner organisations, and oversight bodies—the SED has instructed all administrative units to ensure that every school is fully compliant with the already issued security guidelines. These directives have been circulated to all Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities (DEAs), as well as to the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA), Punjab Education Curriculum, Training & Assessment Authority (PECTAA), and other provincial education bodies.
The department has stressed that all previously issued security protocols covering boundary protection, controlled entry systems, surveillance checks, staff vigilance, and monitoring at school entrances must now be enforced “in true letter and spirit.” Officials say this renewed emphasis is driven by evolving security dynamics, making it essential for educational institutions to maintain a heightened state of alertness.
In a significant administrative shift, the provincial government has placed complete and direct responsibility for on-campus safety on the heads of schools—both public and private. School heads will now be held answerable for ensuring the protection of students, teachers, and staff under their supervision. Authorities note that this renewed focus on accountability reflects the government’s intention to leave no room for negligence, especially in sensitive environments such as schools.
To reinforce these directives, the SED has ordered an immediate and comprehensive security audit of all schools across Punjab. The inspections are expected to identify gaps in existing safety arrangements, and institutions have been instructed to rectify any deficiencies without any delay. The department has clarified that excuses for inadequacy will not be entertained, given the critical nature of the matter.
Additionally, supervisory officers have been directed to carry out daily visits to schools, with the sole purpose of monitoring on-ground security conditions. These daily inspections are meant to ensure continuous vigilance, and the department has warned that even minor lapses in compliance will be dealt with strictly. Officials believe that constant on-site monitoring is necessary to ensure schools remain fully prepared to handle potential security threats.
The communication also instructs all education authorities to convey the security directives down to the lowest administrative tier to guarantee full provincial compliance. Every school—regardless of size, location, or management—is expected to implement the security measures without exception.
The directive has been marked as “MOST IMPORTANT” and “TOP PRIORITY” by the Director (Monitoring), highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Copies of the order have also been forwarded to senior officials including the Director of Public Instructions (SE/EE), the Secretary and Special Secretary of the School Education Department, and the Additional Secretary (General). Their involvement underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that school safety remains at the forefront of administrative responsibilities across Punjab.
With these measures, the Punjab government aims to fortify school security at a time when national circumstances demand increased vigilance. The School Education Department has urged all institutions to cooperate fully and demonstrate responsibility in safeguarding both students and educators throughout the province.
