Renais Gin, a brand co-founded by British actress Emma Watson and her brother, Alex, has raised £4.95 million ($6.19 million) in a bid to accelerate its global expansion. The funds will help the brand grow in the United States and enter new markets such as France, Canada, and Dubai.
Launched in 2023, Renais Gin is the result of a unique collaboration between the Watson siblings and the Chablis wine-producing heritage of their family. The gin is crafted with botanicals that echo the region’s terroir, featuring key ingredients like linden flowers, Kimmeridgian stone, acacia honey, and rock salt.
Investors Backing Renais Gin’s Global Reach
Renais Gin’s recent funding round saw participation from InvestBev, a company specializing in the beverage sector, and Jean-Sebastien Robicquet, the founding president of Maison Villevert, a renowned French spirits brand. This influx of capital will be used to build on the gin’s early success in the U.S. market, where it launched in the Spring of 2024, and further expand its presence into several new global territories.
Inspired by Chablis: A Gin with a Distinctive Terroir
The gin draws inspiration from the vineyards of Chablis, where the Watson family has been involved in wine production for over three decades. The distinctive botanicals, including the use of Kimmeridgian stone, link Renais Gin directly to the mineral-rich soil of Chablis. Kimmeridgian stone is particularly significant in winemaking, as it contributes to the sharp acidity and unique flavor profile of Chablis wines, especially the region’s famed Chardonnay.
The gin’s base spirit is crafted from grape skins from the Chablis region, a process that underscores the brand’s connection to the region’s winemaking legacy. The brand also prides itself on being Carbon Neutral Certified, signaling its commitment to sustainability.
A Future Focused on Growth and Sustainability
With the £4.95 million raised, Renais Gin is poised to continue its upward trajectory. Its focus on global expansion, starting with key markets in the U.S., France, Canada, and Dubai, positions the brand as a significant player in the premium spirits sector. The combination of sustainable production, unique ingredients, and a strong family heritage has given Renais Gin a distinct place in the crowded gin market.
