Attack in Central Sweden
Several people were injured on Friday at a high school in Fagersta, a central Sweden municipality, after a person armed with a sword attacked individuals on the premises . The Fagersta municipality confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect was “probably a student” at the school .
Police Response and Investigation
Police responded to reports of “ongoing deadly violence” at the school, securing the scene and taking one person into custody . Officers are working with a number of different resources, including bomb disposal units, and have urged the public to respect roadblocks and listen to police instructions .
Government Response
Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer confirmed the government is in close contact with police, stating: “We have been informed of a serious incident in Fagersta. The police are on site and working very intensively with the incident” . Local hospitals are on standby to receive victims, and public transport services have been suspended . Police have not yet released details on the victims’ conditions or a possible motive .
