LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday announced three public holidays across the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Holidays From May 26 to 28
Eid holidays will be observed from May 26 to 28, according to the notification. The notification said all government offices and relevant institutions across Punjab will follow the announced holidays as per the schedule being shared.
The decision aims to facilitate citizens in celebrating the religious festival with their families and loved ones. Public and private sector employees, as well as those working in autonomous bodies and semi-government organizations, will benefit from the three-day break.
KP Announces Four Holidays
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced four public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, with all government offices and institutions set to remain closed across the province. The KP government’s decision provides an additional day of rest compared to Punjab.
Eid-ul-Azha Observance
Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important religious festivals in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Muslims traditionally offer animal sacrifices and distribute meat among family, friends, and the less fortunate.
The exact date of Eid-ul-Azha is subject to the sighting of the moon, with official announcements expected from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee closer to the occasion. The holidays announced by provincial governments are based on the expected dates, with adjustments possible if the moon sighting varies.
Travel and Security Arrangements
Authorities have begun making arrangements for Eid celebrations, including security deployments at prayer grounds, markets, and public spaces. Traffic management plans are also being prepared to accommodate the increased movement of citizens traveling to their hometowns for the holidays.
Citizens are advised to plan their travel and other activities accordingly, keeping in mind the holiday schedule announced by the respective provincial governments
