The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory, warning of duststorms, rain-wind, and thunderstorms with isolated heavy showers and hailstorms in several parts of the country starting June 20, 2025. The expected weather activity is the result of moist air currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea colliding with a westerly wave that will enter the upper regions of Pakistan.

This active weather system is forecast to affect different regions in phases from June 20 to 24, with varying intensity and occasional gaps in rainfall.

Urban Flooding Warning

Heavy downpours may cause localized urban flooding in:

  • Lahore
  • Rawalpindi/Islamabad
  • Gujranwala

City authorities are urged to remain on alert and ensure drainage systems are functioning.

Advisory for Farmers, Travelers, and the General Public

For Farmers:

Farmers are strongly advised to:

  • Adjust irrigation schedules
  • Avoid pesticide application during rain periods
  • Secure loose farming equipment

The expected rainfall could benefit crops but may also delay harvesting and fieldwork in some areas.

For Travelers and Tourists:

Travelers to northern areas, Murree, and Galliyat should:

  • Monitor weather updates
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during storms
  • Be cautious on slippery or flooded roads

Landslide-prone regions may also experience increased risk due to saturated soil.

Weather Relief: Heatwave Conditions to Subside

In a positive development, the onset of this system is expected to reduce the prevailing very hot conditions across the plains. The drop in temperature will offer relief to areas experiencing intense heatwaves, particularly in central and southern Pakistan.
