Fawad Chaudhry and MNA Hussain Elahi quit PTI: Tareen forming forward bloc

ISLAMABAD: The crisis in Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf deepened further on Wednesday as Fawad Chaudhry, MNA Hussain Elahi quit the party while Jehangir Khan Tareen paced up efforts to form a forward bloc of like-minded in the PTI.

No one was expecting Fawad Chaudhry to desert the party at this time and his decision to quit the party stunned many in the country and abroad.

Meanwhile, MNA Hussain Elahi, son of Chaudhary Wajahat Hussain, also left PTI on Wednesday. A day earlier, Wajahat Hussain parted ways with the PTI because of the party’s involvement in attacks on military offices and the residence of the Lahore Corps Commander, etc.

PTI’s estranged leader Jehangir Khan Tareen also appeared on the media with his plan to form a forward bloc in the party at a time when PTI leaders are leaving the party on a daily basis.

In the coming few days, more PTI leaders will quit their party to show their resentment against the leadership’s confrontational policy with the army and recent attacks, etc.

Khadija Shah arrested

An anti-terrorism court in Lahore today directed police to conduct an identity parade of Khadija Shah. Lahore police presented Khadija Shah in an anti-terrorism court in connection with her involvement in May 9 riots in Lahore.

Khadija Shah was taken to court in a Prisoner van. The court ordered police to produce Khadija Shah again on May 30.

Earlier, PTI’s elite activist Khadija Shah courted arrest in Lahore on Tuesday night. She is the daughter of former finance minister Dr. Salman Shah and granddaughter of former army chief Asif Nawaz Janjua.

Khadija Shah, the main suspect in the attack on the Corps Commander’s house

Lahore police have declared Khadija Shah the main accused of the attack on the Corps Commander’s residence (Jinnah House) in Lahore on May 9.

Some prominent political leaders including Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain demanded clemency for Khadija Shah.

However, the military establishment outrightly rejected the demand saying they are pursuing a ‘zero tolerance’ policy on May 9 attacks on army installations.

Khadija Shah kept on hiding here and there in Lahore for a week even after announcing that she will court arrest. But she did not surrender until the government and the army refused to forgive her in the May 9 attack on the Corps Commander House in Lahore.

According to police, Khadija Shah will be presented in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore to get her physical remand. The arrest of Khadija will enable police to get some important information about PTI leadership, planning of the May 9 attacks, etc.
