ISLAMABAD: At least 150 people perished in the recent nationwide tormenting rains while 230 suffered injuries.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) disclosed this in its report released on Wednesday. The report highlighted the recent monsoon rains-related fatilities across Pakistan.

According to the report, the heavy rains directly caused tragic accidents, resulting in the loss of lives of 150 people. Also, 233 individuals sustained injuries across the country by June 25, 2023.

Rain-hit people are relocating to safer places in Pakistan after 150 died and 230 suffered injuries in tormenting rains in the country.

The victims included 62 men, 25 women, and at least 63 children among the deceased. Among the injured, 99 were men, 62 were women, and 72 were children. Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are the hardest-hit provinces, with 66 and 41 casualties, respectively.

Balochistan also reported six fatalities due to the relentless downpours. Furthermore, Sindh and Azad Kashmir witnessed the loss of 15 and 6 lives, respectively.

The federal capital, Islamabad, reported 11 deaths as the rains continued to wreak havoc. The impact extended beyond the loss of lives, with hundreds of families suffering from property damage.

The NDMA report stated that a total of 468 houses were damaged by the heavy rains throughout the country during this period.

While the monsoon season in Pakistan has always presented challenges in terms of flooding, landslides, and other natural calamities, this year’s rains have proven to be particularly severe, leading to an unusually high number of casualties and property damage.

Meanwhile, the United Nations, with Pakistan as a co-sponsor, adopted a resolution titled “promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue and Tolerance in countering hate speech.”

The resolution urges the global community to counter all forms and dimensions of hate speech. It gained consensus approval at the UN headquarters in New York, with 44 nations in favor, 62 against, and 24 absent during the voting process.

A statement by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN read that the resolution. Expresses deep concern about the overall rise in instances of discrimination, intolerance, and violence, irrespective of the actors involved.
