The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a notice to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, based on a citizen’s petition.
According to the hearing order issued by a member of the Election Commission on Tuesday, preliminary arguments were presented by Hasan Murtaza, the lawyer representing Muhammad Kafeel, a citizen from Dera Ismail Khan, who filed a petition seeking the disqualification of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The petition presented before a two-member panel of the Election Commission argues that Ali Amin Gandapur entered into a land agreement with a citizen, Asif Khan, in the tehsil of Kulachi in the district of Dera Ismail Khan for 735 kanals (approximately 91.875 acres) of land, according to which the ownership would remain with Asif Khan.
The petitioner claims that later, in the asset declaration submitted to the Election Commission, Ali Amin Gandapur stated that he sold the 735 kanals of land to purchase a Toyota Land Cruiser, which is a misrepresentation because the land was not owned by him.
The lawyer for the petitioner requested that the Election Commission disqualify the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution for not being honest and righteous.
