Sher Afzal Marwat, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticized the party’s alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council, demanding an investigation into PTI’s erroneous decisions.
Speaking on Geo News’ program with Shahzeb Khanzada, Marwat expressed disappointment with the Peshawar High Court’s decision, suggesting it be challenged in the Supreme Court. He highlighted two significant missteps that have cost the party dearly. The first was Imran Khan’s directive to form an alliance with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Sherani group, with the Sherani party as a fallback.
PTI issues show cause notice to Sher Afzal Marwat over remarks against Barrister Gohar
Marwat, along with Asad Qaiser and Barrister Gohar, engaged in multiple meetings with Sherani, eventually reaching an agreement on seat adjustments in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which was publicized. However, days later, the alliance with Sherani’s party abruptly ended, raising questions about the decision’s rationale and execution.
Marwat called for accountability within the party, arguing that without these errors, PTI could have competed under the Sherani party’s banner, potentially avoiding the loss of its symbol. He further criticized the decision to join forces with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, which led to threatening messages and compelled PTI to ally with the Sunni Ittehad Council, resulting in the loss of over 80 seats.
