ISLAMABAD: In Kolai-Palas district in Hazara, a tragic incident unfolded following the viral spread of a video on social media. Allegedly, one girl was killed while another was rescued by the police.

This distressing event took place in Barsharyal village of Palas in Hazara area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The victim lost her life due to her family’s brutal actions under the decree of a local jirga.

The individuals visible in the videos have since gone into hiding after the footage gained attention approximately four days ago.

Authorities promptly intervened, transferring the deceased’s body to a nearby medical facility for necessary procedures before handing it over to her family.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Masood Khan stated that one of the girls shown in the viral video was confirmed deceased, while the other was rescued and taken to provide her statement to the local magistrate.

The rescued girl, as per her statement to the magistrate, expressed no fear for her safety from her family and opted to return with them instead of seeking refuge at Darul Aman.

The police took immediate action, registering a case of murder under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code against the perpetrators. An investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible for the girl’s death and those associated with the jirga that issued the fatal decree.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police affirmed that justice would be served without compromise for this heinous act, emphasizing that nobody is exempt from the law.

Such incidents reflect the disturbing trend where jirgas, in the name of honor, unjustly condemn and execute individuals.

This pattern was similarly witnessed in the infamous Kohistan video scandal in 2013, where five women were tragically killed for merely clapping at a man’s dance.

The repercussions of that incident led to further violence, with four brothers of the dancing man losing their lives and two others still facing the threat of the murder decree. Even the Supreme Court of Pakistan intervened at that time under the then chief justice in 2013, taking suo moto notice of the case.
