LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif chaired a crucial meeting at his Raiwind residence on Monday to finalize the party’s candidates for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections .
The high-level session was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and senior party leaders including Rana Sanaullah, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Attaullah Tarar .
According to party sources, the meeting thoroughly reviewed the electoral landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan and finalized names for various constituencies . The leadership also discussed seat adjustments with coalition partners, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), as well as other allied groups .
A comprehensive strategy to form the next government in the Gilgit-Baltistan region was also deliberated upon . The party aims to secure a strong mandate in the upcoming polls to ensure political stability and continued development in the strategic northern region .
The Gilgit-Baltistan elections are seen as politically significant, coming at a time when the PML-N-led coalition government is navigating economic challenges at the federal level . A strong showing in the region would bolster the party’s position ahead of the next general elections .
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that the party had finalized most of its candidates and would announce the list shortly . He added that seat adjustments with allies would be announced after final consultations .
