Abbottabad Fire: Dozens of Shops Destroyed in Mandian Landa Bazaar Blaze

Major Fire Destroys Shops and Homes at Mandian Landa Bazaar in Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD — A catastrophic fire erupted late Thursday night at Ali Plaza in Mandian’s Landa Bazaar, destroying numerous shops and residential properties. The incident has resulted in losses estimated at millions of rupees, leaving the local business community devastated.

Emergency Response Delays Spark Community Outrage

Local residents and shop owners expressed frustration over significant delays in emergency response. Multiple eyewitnesses reported that their urgent calls to Rescue 1122 and Police helpline 15 went unanswered initially, forcing them to physically travel to emergency stations to alert authorities.

“We made countless calls for help, but nobody responded. We had no choice but to go directly to the rescue station ourselves,” stated one shop owner who witnessed the tragedy unfold.

Rapid Fire Spread Causes Extensive Damage

The blaze intensified quickly, fueled by highly combustible materials including clothing inventory, footwear stock, and household items stored within the commercial premises. Community members report that the delayed arrival of firefighting units allowed the flames to spread uncontrollably, significantly increasing property damage.

According to official statements from Rescue 1122, the fire originated in multiple shops located opposite Ali Plaza, near the Mandian Small Industries area. The exact cause remains under investigation.

Massive Firefighting Operation Launched

Upon confirmation of the emergency, Rescue 1122 mobilized an extensive response team including four fire tenders and two ambulances. Given the scale of the blaze, additional firefighting resources were requested from neighboring districts including Havelian, Cantonment Board TMA, Haripur, and Mansehra.

Approximately 40 firefighters worked tirelessly for several hours to contain the flames. Cooling operations continued well into the following day to prevent any rekindling of the fire.

No Casualties Reported

Authorities confirmed that despite the extensive property damage, no injuries or fatalities occurred during the incident. The timely evacuation of residents from affected buildings prevented potential loss of life.

Community Impact and Recovery

The fire has dealt a severe economic blow to traders and families in the Mandian area. Local business owners are now assessing the full extent of their losses as they contemplate rebuilding efforts.

Questions regarding emergency preparedness and response protocols have emerged following this incident, with community members calling for improved disaster management systems and faster emergency response times in the region.
