Lewiston

A tragic incident unfolded in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night, as local media reports confirmed the loss of at least 22 lives, with numerous others injured in a mass shooting.

This devastating event occurred at several locations, including Sparetime Recreation, Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant, and a Walmart distribution center.

Local authorities responded swiftly to this critical situation. Maine State Police and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office identified an active shooter and issued urgent safety instructions, urging residents to remain indoors, secure their doors, and stay vigilant.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office also released images of a suspect believed to be connected to the shootings.

They are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying this individual, described as a bearded man in a long-sleeved shirt and jeans, armed with a rifle.

The Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston categorized the incident as a “mass casualty, mass shooter event” and is collaborating with neighboring hospitals to provide care to the injured.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and is receiving regular updates from Washington.

Maine Governor Janet Mills offered her condolences to the victims and their families and confirmed that she has been briefed on the situation.

US Congresswoman Ilhan condemns Gaza bombing

Meanwhile, American Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said that Israel has thrown more bombs on Gaza in the last 10 days when the United States exploded in a year in Afghanistan.

Speaking at an event she said, “How could you (members of Congress) look one atrocity wrong and other is not. Where is the humanity and we are we not paying attention to slaughtering of children and women in Gaza.”

She said that a little attention is paid by most of the American media and political class to what humanitarian groups working on the ground in Gaza—and their international allies—have to say about ending the death spiral in the Middle East. But leaders of these groups are speaking with moral clarity about the need to take immediate steps to end the sheer horror that has cost more than 5,500 Israeli and Palestinian lives in the two weeks since the October 7 Hamas assault on Israeli kibbutzim and a music festival.
