Bangladesh seal 2-1 ODI series win after 11-run victory over Pakistan
Bangladesh edged past Pakistan by 11 runs in a nail-biting third ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday, clinching the three-match series 2-1 . This marked Bangladesh’s second straight ODI series win over Pakistan .
Tanzid’s Maiden Century Sets Up Competitive Total
Electing to bat first after Pakistan won the toss, Bangladesh posted a challenging 290 for 5 in their 50 overs . The innings was anchored by a superb maiden ODI century from opener Tanzid Hasan, who scored 107 off 107 balls with six fours and seven sixes .
Tanzid formed a 100-run opening partnership with Saif Hasan (36)—the first for the hosts in the series—before adding another 53 with Najmul Hossain Shanto to lay a strong foundation . Late contributions from Litton Das (41) and an unbeaten 48 from Towhid Hridoy pushed Bangladesh past 290 .
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 52, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Abrar Ahmed claimed one wicket each .
Pakistan’s Chase Falls Short Despite Agha’s Heroics
Chasing 291 for victory, Pakistan’s innings got off to a disastrous start. Taskin Ahmed struck twice in his first two overs to dismiss Sahibzada Farhan and Mohammad Rizwan, while Nahid Rana removed Maaz Sadaqat as Pakistan slumped to 17 for 3 inside the first three overs .
Salman Agha led the fightback with a magnificent century, scoring 106 off just 98 balls with nine fours and four sixes . He received valuable support from debutant Saad Masood (38) and captain Shaheen Afridi (37), who kept Pakistan in the hunt till the very end .
The equation came down to 14 runs required off the final over with one wicket remaining. Rishad Hossain held his nerve despite dropping Shaheen off his own bowling on the second delivery, eventually having the Pakistan skipper stumped off the last ball to seal the victory .
Taskin Ahmed finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 49, while Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets .
Post-Match Reaction
Reflecting on the win, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz said, “It was definitely an excellent match. I was also a bit nervous, especially in the last over when 14 runs were required. Everyone feels that pressure. The wicket played well, and although 300 would have been ideal, 290 was still competitive” .
The series victory continues Bangladesh’s impressive home record against Pakistan, who had earlier leveled the series with a commanding 128-run win in the second ODI .
