Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reaffirmed his party’s commitment to establishing a constitutional court and amending Article 243, which governs the armed forces. The announcement came following the Central Executive Committee meeting held at Bilawal House in Karachi on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference, Bilawal outlined three critical reforms the party endorses: modifying Article 243, creating a dedicated constitutional court, and implementing transparent mechanisms for judicial transfers through proper consultation channels.
The PPP leader emphasized that judicial commission involvement in judge transfers represents a balanced approach to institutional transparency. Under current regulations, the president consults with the Chief Justice before approving transfers, a practice the government seeks to eliminate.
Bilawal proposed that both concerned high courts should have representation if the judicial commission receives transfer authority. He stressed that these reforms align with the Charter of Democracy, which has long advocated for constitutional courts as essential democratic institutions.
Regarding governance, the PPP chairman highlighted his party’s dedication to empowering local government systems nationwide. He praised Sindh’s robust local bodies while criticizing Punjab’s decision to abolish the Lahore mayor position.
Bilawal stated that continued dialogue with the government on constitutional matters, including electoral reforms, remains vital for achieving political stability and institutional harmony across Pakistan.
