TEHRAN – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned that the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open if the United States continues its naval blockade of Iranian ports, escalating tensions just days after the strategic waterway was briefly reopened following a ceasefire in Lebanon .

Ghalibaf accused US President Donald Trump of making “seven claims in one hour” that were all “false,” adding: “They did not win the war with these lies, and they will certainly not get anywhere in negotiations either” .

The Iranian parliament speaker emphasized that passage through the strait would only be permitted via “designated routes” with Iranian authorization. “With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open,” he posted on X .

Trump had earlier announced that the US naval blockade would remain “in full force” until a final deal with Iran is “100 percent complete.” While claiming that “very good conversations” were ongoing, he warned Tehran against trying to “blackmail” the United States .

Iran also firmly rejected Trump’s assertion that Tehran had agreed to hand over its enriched uranium stockpile. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated: “Iran’s enriched uranium is not going to be transferred anywhere. Transferring uranium to the United States has not been an option for us” .

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint through which approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas flows. Its closure would likely send oil prices soaring above $100 per barrel and threaten the global economy with another recession .
