Canada became the latest team to book a place at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, following a resounding 10-wicket win over the Bahamas in the Americas Qualifier on Saturday at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground. The victory not only confirmed Canada’s dominance in the qualifying tournament but also extended their unbeaten streak to five matches.

In a one-sided contest, Canada’s bowlers demolished the Bahamian batting lineup, dismissing them for just 57 runs. The Canadian openers chased the target in only 5.3 overs, underlining the team’s form and intent ahead of the global showpiece.

Ruthless Bowling Performance Sets the Tone

After opting to bowl first, Canada delivered a clinical performance with the ball. Left-arm pacer Kaleem Sana and off-spinner Shivam Sharma wreaked havoc, each claiming three wickets. Their relentless attack left the Bahamas struggling to build any partnerships, with none of the batters crossing 20.

Canada’s tight fielding and aggressive bowling ensured the Bahamas were bowled out quickly, setting up an easy target for the home side.

Bajwa’s Blazing Knock Seals the Deal

In the chase, Canadian opener Dilpreet Bajwa put on a spectacular show, smashing an unbeaten 36 off just 14 deliveries. His rapid-fire innings featured a flurry of boundaries and made sure Canada completed the formalities in under six overs.

Canada’s Road to Qualification: A Perfect Campaign

Led by Nicholas Kirton, Canada came into the tournament as favourites, having competed in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. Their road to qualification featured:

  • A 110-run win over Bermuda in the tournament opener
  • Dominant performances against the Cayman Islands and Bahamas in the early round
  • A rain-affected, 5-over match victory over the Cayman Islands using the DLS method, scoring 82 and winning by 42 runs

Their consistent form across conditions and match types ensured a flawless qualifying campaign.
