Cheryl Burke is speaking out against the media and online scrutiny surrounding her changing appearance, challenging the public to move the focus from surface-level speculation to the deeper realities of mental health, self-work, and healing.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 41-year-old dancer and TV personality addressed the recent wave of unfounded rumors claiming she has undergone facial surgery or used weight-loss medications like Ozempic.

“Let’s talk about mental health,” Burke urged. “Let’s talk about what I’ve done in the last few years when I wasn’t in the spotlight. I’ve done so much work on myself from the inside out, and I’m proud of that.”

“I’m Still Healing and Growing”

Burke, best known for her years on Dancing with the Stars, emphasized that her transformation is the result of personal evolution, not cosmetic enhancement. In a TikTok video posted last week, she directly addressed the speculation:

“This is me at 41. I’ve changed because life has changed me. I’ve experienced trauma, divorce, sobriety, reinvention. I’m still healing, growing, and showing up.”

She added that anyone following her solely to speculate about her looks or demand explanations for her journey is not welcome in her space.

“If you’re here to speculate, compare, or demand answers you’re not entitled to, you’re not welcome. I don’t owe anyone an explanation for my healing.”

A Life Marked by Body Image Struggles

Burke also revealed that she’s dealt with body dysmorphia since childhood, a condition that intensified during her years on television due to the constant pressure to look a certain way.

“I used to travel with a scale,” she admitted. “That number dictated how I felt every day. That’s no way to live.”

She described how the show’s culture — with frequent fittings and focus on body weight — contributed to her negative self-image and emotional distress.

A Journey of Reinvention, Not Cosmetic Surgery

Burke said her current appearance is due to natural aging and lifestyle changes, particularly after joining a nutrition program called Zen. She clarified that she hasn’t undergone facial surgery or taken Ozempic, which has recently become a buzzword in celebrity circles for weight loss.

While she acknowledges that being a public figure invites a level of scrutiny, she believes the current social media climate crosses the line into gaslighting and body shaming.

“If I said it doesn’t affect me, I’d be lying,” she said. “But it doesn’t affect me as badly as it did when I was on the show.”

Using Her Platform to Empower Others

Burke says her goal isn’t to silence criticism, but to reframe the conversation, especially for young women who look up to public figures. She hopes to shift the spotlight away from physical appearance and toward emotional resilience and self-worth.

“I want to influence those who relate to my journey — especially young women — to recognize there’s more to a person than just their physical appearance.”

Final Thoughts: More Than a Face in the Spotlight

Cheryl Burke’s story is one of survival, growth, and transformation. After enduring a public divorce from actor Matthew Lawrence in 2022, and grappling with sobriety, trauma, and years in a highly competitive industry, Burke has emerged as an advocate for self-compassion and mental health awareness.

Her message is clear: It’s time to look beyond appearances and start recognizing the internal battles people face — and overcome — every day.

As Cheryl herself put it:

“I’m proud of who I am becoming — not just how I look, but how I feel.”
