Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has expressed serious concern over reports about the health of incarcerated party founder Imran Khan, saying the information emerging about the former prime minister’s condition is not encouraging.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House in Islamabad on Friday, Gohar said the entire nation was worried about Imran’s health and stressed that there should be no compromise on his medical treatment.
“The reports concerning the PTI founder’s health are not encouraging, and the entire nation is worried,” he said.
Gohar revealed that lawyer Salman Safdar had managed to meet Imran Khan and received instructions regarding his health and pending legal cases.
PTI Approaches Supreme Court Over Imran Khan’s Treatment
The PTI chairman said the party had approached the Supreme Court seeking implementation of its August 18 order concerning Imran Khan’s medical treatment.
According to Gohar, the court had directed that the former prime minister be shifted for medical treatment and that a medical board be constituted to assess his condition.
He said an application had been submitted requesting the Supreme Court to schedule an early hearing on the matter.
“Decisions should be taken regarding the PTI founder’s transfer to hospital and medical treatment,” Gohar said.
He also called for an end to political tensions, warning that the country’s situation should not be allowed to deteriorate further.
The PTI chairman demanded the release of detained lawmakers, party workers and supporters. He also expressed concern over the detention of Imran Khan’s sisters, saying the party had not received information about their condition and calling for their immediate release.
Family Raises Alarm Over Imran Khan’s Health
Gohar’s remarks come amid growing uncertainty surrounding Imran Khan’s health following concerning statements shared on social media by his sister Rubina Khan and son Kasim Khan.
According to The News, Rubina, in a statement shared by Kasim, claimed that Imran had reported a sudden rise in his blood pressure to 192.
She demanded that the former prime minister be immediately shifted to an independent medical facility where he could receive treatment in the presence of his personal doctor.
Kasim also expressed concern over his father’s prolonged isolation in prison, warning of potential consequences for his health.
However, the source of the information shared by Imran’s family remains unclear.
Salman Safdar Distances Himself From Health Reports
Lawyer Salman Safdar, who met Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail on November 2, subsequently distanced himself from reports circulating about the former prime minister’s health.
Safdar clarified that he was not the source of the information and said his responsibilities were strictly legal. He added that he was not acting as a messenger for anyone.
Following the meeting, Safdar said he had been allowed to meet Imran after seven months and Bushra Bibi after 11 months.
He said the meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes, during which both discussed their health, prison conditions and pending legal matters.
Conflicting Accounts Emerge About Imran’s Condition
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the meeting told The News that Imran Khan had mentioned his blood pressure reaching around 190 on one occasion.
However, the sources described him as generally fit and said there was no indication of an immediate serious medical emergency.
They also said Imran was particularly concerned about his wife’s health, including a reported eye-related problem.
The differing accounts have raised questions about the former prime minister’s current medical condition.
With concerns continuing to grow, PTI is demanding an early judicial hearing, a medical assessment and appropriate treatment for its incarcerated founder. No independently verified medical assessment has been provided in the available information.
